Verdict

From CoinSeek’s reviewed take on each tool. Neither is declared the winner.

Aave

Aave is a decentralised lending protocol where people can supply tokens to earn interest or borrow by posting collateral worth more than the loan. It runs as open-source smart contracts on public blockchains such as Ethereum, and supplied funds sit in those contracts rather than with a central custodian. Changes to the code go through onchain governance, where AAVE token holders vote on proposals, and AAVE can also be staked in a Safety Module meant to cover shortfalls. Developers can reach it through an API and SDK, so it suits both savers and builders. Pricing is not listed.

Best for: Earning interest on crypto; Borrowing against crypto collateral; Building lending into apps; Voting on protocol proposals

Maple Finance

Maple Finance is an onchain asset management platform that links institutional borrowers with people and organizations seeking yield. It offers lending and yield products, including ERC-4626 vaults with syrup tokens, and the loans are described as overcollateralized and professionally managed. Loan, transaction and collateral details can be checked on the blockchain, and the platform works across several chains and offers an API. Syrup tokens can also be integrated into other DeFi protocols, wallets and custody setups. Yield products are not open to US residents, and the protocol carries risk of losing digital assets. It mainly suits funds and institutions.

Best for: Institutional borrowers seeking financing; Earning yield from secured loans; Integrating syrup tokens into DeFi; Funds exploring onchain lending
